17 Here is how love has been brought to maturity with us: as the Messiah is, so are we in the world. Versículo 19. Lo amamos porque él nos amó primero.  Este es el fundamento de nuestro amor a Dios. 1. Lo amamos porque descubrimos que él nos ha amado. 2. Lo amamos con sentido de obligación y gratitud. 3. Lo amamos por la influencia de su propio amor; de su amor derramado en nuestros corazones, procede nuestro amor por él. Es la semilla de donde brota nuestro amor. El verso podría ser traducido, Amémosle, pues, porque él nos amó primero : así el siríaco y la Vulgata .
