 אֲבִיּוֺנָה noun feminine caper-berry (as stimulating desire) Ecclesiastes 12:5 (see GFM JBL 1891,55 ff.; so ᵐ5ᵑ9, Mishna אביונות, compare NHWB; see also ᵑ6; i.e. capparis spinosa, compare Ri HWB; so Thes, Ew Deuteronomy , etc.; but Wetzst in De (German ed. 1875) proposes אֶבְיוֺנָה (as feminine of אביון) the poor soul in sense = נִשְׁמָתוֺ הָאֶבְיוֺנָה compare Symm ᵑ6, where double translation).

אֲבִיּוֹנָה f., prop. appetite, desire (from the root אָבָה No. 1), hence the caper berry, which is said to stimulate both appetite and sexual desire (Plut. Quæst. Symp. vi. 2; Plin. N. H. xiii. 23; xx. 15), Ecclesiastes 12:5. It is rendered caper by the LXX., Vulg., Syr. The Rabbies use the the pl. אֶבְיוֹנִין as denoting not only capers, but also the small fruits of trees, as myrtles, olives, etc.
