Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside they are full from extortion and lack of self-control.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whited tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all impurity.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,

Therefore, look, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:

And those that had taken Jesus led him away to [the house of] Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.

In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him], with the scribes and elders, said,

And they were astonished at his teaching: For he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and publicans, said to his disciples, [How is it] that he eats with publicans and sinners?

And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebul, and, By the prince of the demons he casts out the demons.

And there are gathered together to him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem,

And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands?

And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

And they asked him, saying, [How is it] that the scribes say that Elijah must first come?

And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them.

[saying], Look, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:

And the chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, for all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.

And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together, and having seeing that he answered them well, asked him, What commandment is the first of all?

And Jesus answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How do the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
