No como Caín - Sin manifestar el espíritu que hizo Caín. La suya fue una instancia notable y sorprendente de la falta de amor a un hermano, y el caso fue bien adaptado para ilustrar la propiedad del deber que el apóstol está ordenando. Ver Génesis 4:4.

¿Quién era del maligno? Del diablo; es decir, estaba bajo su influencia y actuó por instigación.

Versículo 12. No como Caín. Los hombres no deben actuar unos con otros como Caín lo hizo con su hermano Abel. Lo asesinó porque era mejor que él mismo. Pero, ¿quién era Caín? εκτουπονηρουην, era del diablo . ¿Y quiénes son los que por orgullo, ansia de poder, ambición, ganancia, etc., se matan unos a otros en guerras y contiendas políticas? εκτουπονηρουεισι. Intentar justificar el principio y excusar a los instigadores, autores, cómplices , etc., de tales guerras, es tan vano como perverso. Se oponen a la naturaleza de Dios , y a ese mensaje que ha enviado a los hombres desde el principio: Amaos los unos a los otros. Ama a tus enemigos . Seguramente esto no significa, volarles los sesos , o cortarles la garganta . ¡Oh, cuánto del espíritu, temperamento y letra del Evangelio tienen que aprender las naciones del mundo, y particularmente las naciones de Europa!

¿Y por qué lo mató?  ¿Qué podría inducir a un hermano a empapar sus manos en la sangre de otro hermano? Bueno, su hermano era justo, y él era inicuo y la simiente del inicuo que estaba en él lo indujo a destruir a su hermano, porque la simiente de Dios, la naturaleza divina, se encontraba en él.
