a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born at Giessen, June 28, 1803. In 1828 he was appointed professor at the gymnasium in Darmstadt, and died in 1865, a doctor of philosophy. He published, Religiose Vortage (Mayence, 1833; second series, Darmstadt, 1839): — Lehrbuch der Religion under der Geschichte der christl. Kirche (1849, 2 volumes): — Der christliche Glaube und das christliche Leben (4th ed. 1862): — Die confessionellen Fragen der Gegenwart vom kirchenrechtlichen und theologischen Standpunkte (1846).
