a Presbyterian divine, was born at Bethel, Vermont, August 27, 1799. He graduated from Hamilton College, N.Y., in 1824; was ordained in 1826, and settled at Rochester, where he remained until 1830; was pastor of Dey Street Church, New York city, from 1830 to 1833; at New Orleans from 1833 to 1838, and at the Broadway Tabernacle, New York city, from 1838 to 1840. He was chosen president and professor of sacred rhetoric in the Union Theological Seminary in the latter year, and retained the position two years. During the next ten years he served the Clinton Street Church, Philadelphia. He became pastor of the Bleecker Street Church, New York city, in 1852 and of the Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church in 1854. He died in New York city, May 2, 1873. Dr. Parker was for some time associate editor of the Presbyterian Quarterly, and published, among other works, Lectures on Universalism (Rochester, 1829): Morsels for a Young Student (about 1832): Reasonings of a Pastor with the Young of his Flock Sermons on Various Subjects (1852).
