Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For the verb used metaphorically ";flow past,"; ";drift away,"; in Hebrews 2:1, Moffatt (ICC ad l.) refers back to Proverbs 3:21, and quotes Clem. Paed.

The subst. παράρρυμα, with reference apparently to a covering stretched along a ship’s side for purposes of protection, is found in Syll.3 969.86 (B.C. 347–6) ποιήσει δὲ καὶ κιβωτοὺς τοῖς ἱστίοις καὶ τοῖς παραρρύμασιν τοῖς λευκοῖς.
