בָּזַז plur. בָּֽזְזוּ, בָּזַזְנוּ, once בַּזּוֹנוּ, inf. בֹּז, fut. יָבֹז; to snatch away, to prey, to take a prey, to spoil (Arab. بَزَّ Conj. I. VIII.; Aram. בְּזַז, ܒܰܙ id. The primary power appears to be that of to pull in pieces, compare the kindred roots בָּזָא, בָּזַק, בָּזַר. Hence the Ch. בַּזְבֵּז to bring to decay, to dissipate; from which commonly is derived נָבִזְבָּה a liberal gift, see under that word.) It is construed

(a) absol. Numbers 31:53; 1 Samuel 14:36.

(b) with an acc. of the prey, to take any thing for a prey, to seize and carry away what is seized. Genesis 34:29; Numbers 31:9; Deuteronomy 2:35, 3:7. בָּזַז בַּז to seize a prey, Isaiah 10:6, 33:23. בָּזַז שָׁלָל id. 2 Chronicles 28:8.

(c) with accus. of the city, country, persons spoiled, Genesis 34:27; Ezekiel 39:10; 2 Kings 7:16; 2 Chronicles 14:13; Isaiah 42:22.
