an English poet and divine, was born about 1700, and educated at Marlborough School and at St. Mary's Hall, Oxford, of which he became vice-principal. He was canon of Windsor in 1751, and subsequently vicar of St. Austel and of St. Blazy, Cornwall. He died in March, 1774, leaving Poems on Several Occasions (1727): — Essay on Satire (1730): — Essay on Reason (1735): — A Fast Sermon (1740). See Chalmers, Biog.
