Verse 1

lamented . As for a second Moses. Compare Jeremiah 15:1 .

in = by, or near.

down . Topography here is most exact. It is a continuous descent to the Negeb for more than a day's journey.

Verse 2

man . Hebrew. 'ish. App-14 .

the man . Note the introversion of the four lines of this verse: x Nabal.: y Abigail,: y Abigail.: x Nabal.: Nabal = foolish.:

of the house of Caleb = a Calebite. But Septuagint, Syriac, and Arabic have translated the word "cynical".

him that liveth = the bon vivant.

Verse 8

servants . Some codices, with one early printed edition, read "servant".

water . Septuagint reads "wine".

brought . Verb is masculine; and is so when women act in masculine way, and feminine when men act in feminine way.

bundle of life = bag (as in 1 Samuel 17:40 , 1 Samuel 17:49 ) of the living.

sling out : i.e. like the stones in David's sling.

shed blood causeless = shed innocent blood. Figure of speech Antimereia (of Adverb). App-6 .

avenged = saved.

advice = good taste.

accepted thy person = uplifted thy face.
