Exodus 25:18 forms and design there is much difference of opinion among divines. It is probable that the term often means a figure of any kind, such as was ordinarily sculptured on stone, engraved on metal, carved on wood, or embroidered on cloth. See on Exodus 37:8. It may be only necessary to add, that cherub is the singular number; cherubim, not cherubims, the plural. See what has been said on this subject in the note on Genesis 3:24. Genesis 3:24; Genesis 3:24.
Exodus 4:3 Verse Exodus 4:3. A serpent — Of what sort we know not, as the word נחש nachash is a general name for serpents, and also means several other things, see Genesis 3:1: but it was either of a kind that he had not seen before, or one that he knew to be dangerous; for it is said, he fled from before it. Some suppose the staff was changed into a crocodile; Exodus 7:10.
1 Chronicles 3:1 CHAPTER III The children of David which were born to him in Hebron, 1-4. Those born to him in Jerusalem, 5-9. The regal line from Solomon, 10-24. NOTES ON CHAP. IIIVerse 1 Chronicles 3:1. The second, Daniel — In 2 Samuel 3:3, this person is called Chileab; he probably had two names. The Targum says, "The second, Daniel, who was also called Chileab, because he was in every respect like to his father." The Targumist refers here
Ezra 3:3 Verse Ezra 3:3. They set the altar upon his bases — Rebuilt it on the same spot on which it had formerly stood. As it was necessary to keep up the Divine worship during the time they should be employed in re-edifying the temple, they first reared this altar of burnt-offerings; and all this they did, "though fear was upon them," because of the unfriendly disposition of their surrounding neighbours.
Psalms 119:164 twice in the morning before reading the decalogue, and once after; twice in the evening before the same reading, and twice after; making in the whole seven times. The Roman Church has prescribed a similar service. In a manuscript Saxon Homily, Domin. 3, in Quadrag, A.D. 971, I find the following singular directions: - [Anglo-Saxon] 1. [Anglo-Saxon] 2. [Anglo-Saxon] 3. [Anglo-Saxon] 4. [Anglo-Saxon] 5. [Anglo-Saxon] 6. [Anglo-Saxon] 7. [Anglo-Saxon] Every Christian man is commanded that he always
Song of Solomon 2:8 observes,1. The bride relates how the bridegroom, attended by his companions, had come under her window, and called upon her to come forth and enjoy the beauties of the spring, Song of Solomon 2:9-11, c.2. She then returns to her narration, Song of Solomon 3:1. The bridegroom did not come according to her wishes. Night came on she did not find him in her bed; she went out to seek him; found him, and brought him to her mother's pavilion, Song of Solomon 3:4; and then, as before, conjures the virgins not
Malachi 2:3 Verse Malachi 2:3. Behold, I will corrupt your seed — So as to render it unfruitful. Newcome translates, - "I will take away from you the shoulder." This was the part that belonged to the priest, Leviticus 7:32; Deuteronomy 18:3.Spread dung upon your faces — Instead of receiving a sacrifice at your hands, I will throw your offerings back into your faces. Here God shows his contempt for them and their offerings.
Matthew 18:3 Verse Matthew 18:3. Except ye be converted — Unless ye be saved from those prejudices which are at present so baneful to your nation, (seeking a temporal and not a spiritual kingdom,) unless ye be clothed with the spirit of humility, ye cannot enter into the spirit,
Matthew 18:3 Verso Mateo 18:3.
Luke 24:47 Verse 47. Repentance — See its nature fully explained on Matthew 3:1.Remission of sins — αφεσιν αμαρτιων, The taking away - removal of sins, in general every thing that relates to the destruction of the power, the pardoning of the guilt, and the purification of the heart from the very nature of sin.Should be
John 19:39 Verse 39. Nicodemus — John 3:1, c.Myrrh and aloes — Which drugs were used to preserve bodies from putrefaction. Calmet says that the aloes mentioned here is a liquor which runs from an aromatic tree, and is widely different from that called aloes
John 19:39 Verso 39. Nicodemo. Juan 3:1.

Colossians 1:26 Verse 26. The mystery which hath been hid — The mystery is this: that God had designed to grant the Gentiles the same privileges with the Jews, and make them his people who were not his people. That this is what St. Paul means by the mystery, see Ephesians 3:3, c.Made manifest to his saints — It is fully known to all who have embraced the doctrine of Christ crucified to all Christians.
1 Thessalonians 3:3 Verse 1 Thessalonians 3:3. That no man should be moved — That is, caused to apostatize from Christianity. We are appointed thereunto. We are exposed to this, we lie open to such, they are unavoidable in the present state of things; as the Latins say, sic est sors nostra, "this is our lot." God appoints nothing of this kind, but he permits it: for he has made man a free agent.
1 Samuel 3:13 Verse 1 Samuel 3:13. I will judge his house for ever — I will continue to execute judgments upon it till it is destroyed. His sons made themselves vile — See 1 Samuel 2:12-17; 1 Samuel 2:22-25.He restrained them not. — He did not use his parental and juridical authority to curb them, and prevent the disorders which they committed. See at the conclusion of the chapter (1 Samuel 3:21 [note]).
