1 Chronicles 16:5 Verse 1 Chronicles 16:5. Asaph — See the preceding chapter, 1 Chronicles 15:17, &c.
Proverbs 24:13 our Lord ate it, is evident from Luke 24:42. Nor can any man who has not eaten it in this way feel the full force of the allusions to the honey-comb and its sweetness in several parts of the sacred writings. See 1 Samuel 14:27; Psalms 19:10; Proverbs 5:3; Proverbs 16:24; Proverbs 27:7; Song of Solomon 4:11; Song of Solomon 5:1; and the place before us.
Leviticus 5:8 Verse Leviticus 5:8. But shall not divide it — Leviticus 1:16; Leviticus 1:16.
Jeremiah 52:5 Versículo Jeremias 52:5 . Y la ciudad fue sitiada. Resistió un año y seis meses .
Jeremiah 52:8 Versículo Jeremias 52:8 . El ejército de los caldeos los persiguió. 2 Reyes 25:5 .
Versículo Zacarías 5:1 . He aquí un rollo volador. Algunos
Mark 5:11 Verse Mark 5:11. A great herd of swine — Matthew 8:30; Matthew 8:30.
Mark 5:3 Verse Mark 5:3. Who had his dwelling among the tombs — See Matthew 8:28.
Luke 14:5 Verse Luke 14:5. An ass or an ox — Luke 13:15; Luke 13:15.
John 2:20 Verse John 2:20. Forty and six years was this temple in building — The temple of which the Jews spake was begun to be rebuilt by Herod the Great, in the 18th year of his reign: Jos. Ant. b. xv. c. 11, s. 1; and xx. c. 9, s. 5, 7. But though he finished the main work in nine years and a half, yet some additional buildings or repairs were constantly carried on for many years afterwards. Herod began the work sixteen years before the birth of our Lord: the transactions which
John 20:14 as yet gone so far as to be out of the garden.Knew not that it was Jesus — John has here omitted what the angels said to the women, about Christ's being risen; probably because it was so particularly related by the other evangelists: Matthew 28:5-7; Mark 16:6-7; Luke 24:5-7. Mary was so absorbed in grief that she paid but little attention to the person of our Lord, and therefore did not at first discern it to be him; nor could she imagine such an appearance possible, as she had no conception
John 8:3 were guilty themselves dared not try their suspected wives, as it was believed the waters would have no evil effect upon the wife, if the husband himself had been criminal. See the whole of the process on the waters of jealousy in the notes on Numbers 5:14, c. and see at the Numbers 5:31. 18.
Acts 28:10 Verse Acts 28:10. Honoured us with many honours — The word τιμη, as Bishop Pearce has remarked, is often used to signify a pecuniary recompense, or present. The Greek word seems to be thus used in 1 Timothy 5:17. Let the elders which rule well be accounted worthy of double HONOUR, τιμης, which St. Chrysostom, on the place, explains thus: την των αναγκαιων χορηγιαν· a supplying them with all necessary things. Diodorus Siculus, and Xenophon, used the word
1 Thessalonians 5:5 Verse 1 Thessalonians 5:5. Ye are all the children of light — Ye are children of God, and enjoy both his light and life. Ye are Christians-ye belong to him who has brought life and immortality to light by his Gospel. This dispensation, under which ye are, has illustrated
1 Timothy 5:9 those for which the Church must provide. But some think that the apostle means the list of those who were deaconesses in the Church; and that no widow was to be admitted into that rank who did not answer to the following character. See note on 1 Timothy 5:10.Under threescore years — As it might be supposed that, previously to this age, they might be able to do something towards their own support. See note on 1 Timothy 5:10.Having been the wife of one man — Having lived in conjugal fidelity
