1 Kings 4:5 — Verse 1 Kings 4:5. Azariah - was over the officers — He had the superintendence of the twelve officers mentioned below; see 1 Kings 4:7.Zabud - was principal officer — Perhaps what we call premier, or prime minister.The king's friend — His chief favourite - his confidant.
2 Chronicles 24:4 — Verse 2 Chronicles 24:4. To repair the house of the Lord. — During the reigns of Joram and Athaliah, the temple of God had been pillaged to enrich that of Baal, and the whole structure permitted to fall into decay; see 2 Chronicles 24:7.
Job 15:31 — Verse Job 15:31. Let not him that is deceived —7. He has many vain imaginations of obtaining wealth, power, pleasure, and happiness; but he is deceived; and he finds that he has trusted בשוא bashshav, in a lie; and this lie is his recompense.
Psalms 107:7 — Verse Psalms 107:7. That they might go to a city of habitation. — God stirred up the heart of Cyrus to give them liberty to return to their own land: and Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah, at different times, brought many of them back to Judea.

Mark 7:14 — Verse Mark 7:14. When he had called all the people — But instead of παντα, all, παλιν, again, is the reading of BDL, later Syriac in the margin, Coptic, AEthiopic, Saxon, Vulgate, all the Itala but one. Mill and Griesbach approve of this reading.
Luke 13:24 — Verse Luke 13:24. Many - will seek — They seek-wish and desire; but they do not strive; therefore, because they will not agonize - will not be in earnest, they shall not get in. See this subject more particularly explained on Matthew 7:13-14.
Luke 24:7 — Verse Luke 24:7. Sinful men — Or heathens, ανθρωπων ἁμαρτωλων, i.e. the Romans, by whom only he could be put to death; for the Jews themselves acknowledged that this power was now vested in the hands of the Roman governor alone. See John 19:15.
Acts 7:10 — Verse Acts 7:10. Gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh — God gave him much wisdom, in consequence of which he had favour with the king of Egypt. See the whole of this remarkable history explained at large, Genesis 41:1-28.
Joshua 11:7 — Verse Joshua 11:7. By the waters of Merom suddenly — Joshua, being apprised of this grand confederation, lost no time, but marched to meet them; and before they could have supposed him at hand, fell suddenly upon them, and put them to the rout.
1 Samuel 2:7 — Verse 1 Samuel 2:7. The Lord maketh poor — For many cannot bear affluence, and if God should continue to trust them with riches, they would be their ruin.Maketh rich — Some he can trust, and therefore makes them stewards of his secular bounty.
1 Samuel 3:7 — Verse 1 Samuel 3:7. Samuel did not yet know the Lord — He had not been accustomed to receive any revelation from him. He knew and worshipped the God of Israel; but he did not know him as communicating especial revelation of His will.
1 Samuel 7:4 — Verse 1 Samuel 7:4. Put away Baalim and Ashtaroth — These were not two particular deities, but two genera of idols; the one masculine, BAALIM; the other feminine, ASHTAROTH; both the words are in the plural number, and signify all their gods and goddesses.
1 Samuel 7:5 — Verse 1 Samuel 7:5. Gather all Israel to Mizpeh — This appears to have been an armed assembly, though probably collected principally for religious and political purposes; but Samuel knew that an unarmed multitude could not safely be convened in the vicinity of the Philistines.
