Genesis 20:3 — Verse Genesis 20:3. But God came to Abimelech — Thus we find that persons who were not of the family of Abraham had the knowledge of the true God. Indeed, all the Gerarites are termed גוי צדיק goi tsaddik, a righteous nation, Genesis 20:4.

Genesis 39:4 — Verse Genesis 39:4. He made him overseer — הפקיד hiphkid, from פקד pakad, to visit, take care of, superintend; the same as επισκοπος, overseer or bishop, among the Greeks. This is the term by which the Septuagint often express the meaning of the original.

1 Kings 17:4 — Verse 1 Kings 17:4. I have commanded the ravens to feed thee — Thou shalt not lack the necessaries of life; thou shalt be supplied by an especial providence. See more on this subject at the end of the chapter. 1 Kings 17:24.

2 Chronicles 1:4 — Verse 2 Chronicles 1:4. But the ark — The tabernacle and the brazen altar remained still at Gibeon; but David had brought away the ark out of the tabernacle, and placed it in a tent at Jerusalem; 2 Samuel 6:2; 2 Samuel 6:17.

2 Chronicles 24:4 — Verse 2 Chronicles 24:4. To repair the house of the Lord. — During the reigns of Joram and Athaliah, the temple of God had been pillaged to enrich that of Baal, and the whole structure permitted to fall into decay; see 2 Chronicles 24:7.

Nehemiah 3:16 — Verse 16. The pool that was made — Calmet supposes that this was the reservoir made by Hezekiah, when besieged by Sennacherib, 2 Chronicles 32:4.The house of the mighty. — Probably a place where a band of soldiers was kept, or the city guard.

Esther 5:4 — Verse Esther 5:4. Let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet — It was necessary to invite Haman to prevent his suspicion, and that he might not take any hasty step which might have prevented the execution of the great design.

Job 1:4 — Verse Job 1:4. Feasted in their houses, every one his day — It is likely that a birthday festival is here intended. When the birthday of one arrived, he invited his brothers and sisters to feast with him; and each observed the same custom.

Job 34:4 — Verse Job 34:4. Let us choose to us judgment — Let us not seek the applause of men, nor contend for victory. Let our aim be to obtain correct views and notions of all things; and let us labour to find out what is good.

Psalms 101:4 — Verse Psalms 101:4. A froward heart — Rash and headstrong men shall not be employed by me.I will not know a wicked person. — I will give no countenance to sinners of any kind; and whatever is evil shall be an object of my abhorrence.

Psalms 145:4 — Versículo Salmo 145:4 . Amos 5:4 — Verse Amos 5:4. Seek ye me, and ye shall live — Cease your rebellion against me; return to me with all your heart; and though consigned to death, ye shall be rescued and live. Deplorable as your case is, it is not utterly desperate.

Luke 9:4 — Verse Luke 9:4. There abide, and thence depart. — That is, remain in that lodging till ye depart from that city. Some MSS. and versions add μη, which makes the following sense: There remain, and depart NOT thence. Matthew 10:11; Matthew 10:11.

2 Thessalonians 3:4 — Verse 4. And we have confidence — We have no doubt of God's kindness towards you; he loves you, and will support you: and we can confide in you, that ye are now acting as we have desired you, and will continue so to do.

Jude 1:18 — Verse Jude 1:18. Mockers in the last time — See the notes on 1 Timothy 4:1; 2 Timothy 3:1, c. and particularly 2 Peter 3:2-3, &c., to which Jude seems to refer.The last time. - The conclusion of the Jewish polity.

1 Samuel 7:4 — Verse 1 Samuel 7:4. Put away Baalim and Ashtaroth — These were not two particular deities, but two genera of idols; the one masculine, BAALIM; the other feminine, ASHTAROTH; both the words are in the plural number, and signify all their gods and goddesses.
