Exodus 2:18 — pronouncing the same word wherever it may occur, either in the Old or New Testament, is greatly to be desired. The person in question appears to have several names. Here he is called Reuel; in Numbers 10:29, Raguel; in Exodus 3:1, Jethor; in Judges 4:11, Hobab; and in Judges 1:16 he is called קיני Keyni, which in Exodus 4:0 we translate Kenite. Some suppose that Re-u-el was father to Hobab, who was also called Jethro. This is the most likely; Exodus 3:1; Exodus 3:1.
משאלות mishaloth , las peticiones.
Selah.  Obsérvelo: esta es una verdad bien atestiguada.
Psalms 72:8 — Verse Psalms 72:8. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea — The best comment on this, as it refers to Solomon, may be found in 1 Kings 4:21; 1 Kings 4:24: "And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms, from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt; for he had dominion over all on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side
Proverbs 30:21 — three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear — This is another enigma. Four things insupportable to men. 1. A slave, when he becomes ruler. 2. An overfed fool. 3. An ill-tempered woman, when mistress of a family. And, 4. A servant maid, when the rule of the house is committed to her.1. A slave, when he comes to bear rule, is an unprincipled tyrant. It has been often observed both in America and in the West Indies, when it was judged necessary to arm some of the most
Isaiah 10:29 — Verse Isaiah 10:29. They are gone over the passage - "They have passed the strait"] The strait here mentioned is that of Michmas, a very narrow passage between two sharp hills or rocks, (see 1 Samuel 14:4-5,) where a great army might have been opposed with advantage by a very inferior force. The author of the Book of Judith might perhaps mean this pass, at least among others: "Charging them to keep the passages of the hill country, for by them there
Isaiah 4:4 — Verse Isaiah 4:4. The spirit of burning — Means the fire of God's wrath, by which he will prove and purify his people; gathering them into his furnace, in order to separate the dross from the silver, the bad from the good. The severity of God's judgments, the
Daniel 11:4 — Verse Daniel 11:4. His kingdom shall be broken — Shall, after his death, be divided among his four chief generals, as we have seen before. See Daniel 8:22.And not to his posterity — The family of Alexander had a most tragical end:1. His wife Statira was murdered
Mark 1:40 — Verse Mark 1:40. There came a leper — See the notes on Matthew 8:2, c. Should any be inclined to preach on this cleansing of the leper, Mark is the best evangelist to take the account from, because he is more circumstantial than either Matthew or Luke.I. Consider
John 4:1 — CHAPTER IV. Jesus, finding that the Pharisees took offence at his making many disciples, leaves Judea to pass into Galilee, 1-3. And passing through Samaria comes to Sychar, and rests at Jacob's well, 4-6. While his disciples were gone to the city to buy meat, a woman of Samaria comes to draw water, with whom our Lord discourses at large on the spiritual nature of his religion, the perfection of the Divine nature, and the purity of his worship, 7-24.
2 Corinthians 4:1 — CHAPTER IV. St. Paul shows the integrity with which he had preached the Gospel of Christ, 1, 2. And that, if it was unprofitable to any who had heard it, it was because their unbelieving hearts were blinded, 3, 4. How he preached, and how he was qualified for the work, 5-7. The troubles and difficulties he met with in his labours, and the hope and consolations by which he was supported, 8-15. And the prospect he had of eternal blessedness, 16-18. NOTES ON CHAP.
2 Corinthians 5:4 — Verse 2 Corinthians 5:4. For we that are in this tabernacle — We who are in this state of trial and difficulty do groan, being burdened; as if he had said: The whole of human life is a state of suffering, and especially our lot; who are troubled on every side, perplexed,
Joshua 7:4 — Versículo Josué 7:4 . Unos tres mil hombres.
Hebrews 13:1 — CHAPTER XIII. Exhortations to hospitality to Strangers, 1, 2. Kindness to those in bonds, 3. Concerning marriage, 4. Against covetousness, 5, 6. How they should imitate their teachers, 7, 8. To avoid strange doctrines, 9. Of the Jewish sin-offerings, 10, 11. Jesus suffered without the gate, and we should openly confess him and bear his reproach, 12, 13. Here we have
Ruth 4:2 — Verse Ruth 4:2. He took ten men — Probably it required this number to constitute a court. How simple and how rational was this proceeding!1. The man who had a suit went to the city gates.2. Here he stopped till the person with whom he had the suit came to
1 Samuel 31:4 — Verse 1 Samuel 31:4. Draw thy sword, and thrust me through — Dr. Delaney has some good observations on this part of the subject: "Saul and his armour-bearer died by the same sword. That his armour-bearer died by his own sword is out of all doubt; the text expressly
