Proverbs 9:12 — Versículo Proverbios 9:12 . Si eres sabio. Es tu propio interés ser religioso. Jeremiah 6:9 — Versículo Jeremias 6:9 . Zechariah 10:6 — Verse Zechariah 10:6. I will strengthen the house of Judah — I doubt whether the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth verses (Zechariah 10:6-9) are not to be understood of the future ingathering of the Jews in the times of the Gospel. See Jeremiah 3:14; Jeremiah 23:6; Hosea 1:2; Hosea 6:11.
Zechariah 2:9 — Verse Zechariah 2:9. I will shake mine hand upon them — I will threaten first, and then stretch out my hand of judgment against them.A spoil to their servants — To those whom they had formerly subjected to their sway. As the Babylonians to the Medes and Persians; and so of the rest in the subversion of empires.
Malachi 1:9 — Verse Malachi 1:9. Beseech God — There were evident marks of God's displeasure in the land, and it was occasioned by these pollutions through the priests. And now he exhorts them to pray to God that they may be pardoned: for, if this practice be persisted in, God will not accept any offering made by them.
Matthew 17:4 — Verse Matthew 17:4. Peter said - let us make, &c.] That is, when he saw Moses and Elijah ready to depart from the mount, Luke 9:33, he wished to detain them, that he might always enjoy their company with that of his Lord and Master, still supposing that Christ would set up a temporal kingdom upon earth.
Luke 8:54 — Verse Luke 8:54. He put them all out — That is, the pipers and those who made a noise, weeping and lamenting. See Matthew 9:23; Mark 5:38. Pompous funeral ceremonies are ridiculous in themselves, and entirely opposed to the spirit and simplicity of the religion of Christ. Every where they meet with his disapprobation.
John 1:42 — Verse 42. Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. — πετρος signifies a stone, or fragment of a rock. The reason why this name was given to Simon, who was ever afterwards called Peter, may be seen in the notes on Matthew 16:18, Matthew 16:19, and particularly in Luke, at the end of chap 9. Matthew 16:19- :
Acts 9:25 — Verse Acts 9:25. Let him down, by the wall — Favoured, probably, by a house built against or upon the wall, through the window of which they could lower him in a basket; and by this means he made his escape. His escape was something similar to that of the spies at Jericho, Joshua 2:15.
Acts 9:8 — Verse Acts 9:8. When his eyes were opened, he saw no man — Instead of ουδενα, no man, the Codex Alexandrinus, the Syriac, Vulgate, and some others, have ουδεν nothing. He not only saw no man, but he saw nothing, being quite blind; and therefore was led by the hand to Damascus, μη βλεπων, being without sight.
2 Corinthians 10:9 — Verse 2 Corinthians 10:9. That I may not seem, c.] This is an elliptical sentence, and may be supplied thus: "I have not used this authority nor will I add any more concerning this part of the subject, lest I should seem, as my adversary has insinuated, to wish to terrify you by my letters.
Ephesians 1:20 — Verse 20. Set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places — Gave him, as mediator between God and man, the highest honours and dignities, Philippians 2:9; in which state of exaltation he transacts all the affairs of his Church, and rules the universe. The right hand is the place of friendship, honour, confidence, and authority.
Revelation 13:9 — Verse Revelation 13:9. If any man have an ear, let him hear. — These words are evidently introduced to impress the reader with the awfulness of what has just been spoken-all shall worship him whose names are not written in the book of life, as well as to fix his attention upon the following words:-
Revelation 16:9 — Verse Revelation 16:9. They repented not — No moral national amendment has taken place in consequence of the above calamities in that unhappy country, nor indeed any of those nations engaged against her in that long and ruinous contest, which has now terminated, (1817,) without producing one political, moral, or religious advantage to herself or to Europe.
Revelation 9:2 — Verse Revelation 9:2. He opened the bottomless pit — το φρεαρ της αβυσσου The pit of the bottomless deep. Some think the angel means Satan, and the bottomless pit hell. Some suppose Mohammed is meant; and Signior Pastorini professes to believe that Luther is intended!There arose a smoke — False doctrine, obscuring the true light of heaven.
