Genesis 29:8 Verse Genesis 29:8. We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together — It is a rule that the stone shall not be removed till all the shepherds and the flocks which have a right to this well be gathered together; then, and not before, we may water the sheep. Genesis 29:3; Genesis 29:3.
1 Chronicles 3:3 Verse 1 Chronicles 3:3. By Eglah his wide. — The Targum, Jarchi, and others, maintain that this was Michal, the daughter of Saul; but this does not well agree with 2 Samuel 6:23: Michal had no child to the day of her death. Yet she might have had a child before the time that is mentioned above.
Ezra 2:3 Verse Ezra 2:3. The children of Parosh — Where the word children is found in this table, prefixed to the name of a man, it signifies the descendants of that person, as from Ezra 2:3-21. Where it is found prefixed to a place, town, &c., it signifies the inhabitants of that place, as from Ezra 2:21-35.
Nehemiah 3:3 Verse Nehemiah 3:3. The fish gate — We really know scarcely any thing about these gates - what they were, why called by these names, or in what part of the wall situated. All plans of Jerusalem, its temple, walls, and gates, are mere works of conjecture; and yet how learnedly have some men written on all these subjects!
Nehemiah 3:9 Verse Nehemiah 3:9. Ruler of the half part of Jerusalem. — Probably the city was divided into two parts; one for Judah, and the other for Benjamin, each having its proper governor. Rephaiah mentioned here was one of these governors, and Shallum, mentioned Nehemiah 3:12, was the other. There were other rulers or governors of particular country or village districts.
Leviticus 23:3 Verse Leviticus 23:3. The seventh day is the Sabbath — This, because the first and greatest solemnity, is first mentioned. He who kept not this, in the most religious manner, was not capable of keeping any of the others. The religious observance of the Sabbath stands at the very threshold of all religion. Genesis 2:3.
Jeremiah 15:3 Verse Jeremiah 15:3. I will appoint over them four kinds — There shall appear four instruments of my justice.1. The sword to slay.2. The dogs to tear what is slain.3. The fowls of the heaven to feed on the dead carcasses. And,4. The wild beasts to destroy all that the fowls have left.
Matthew 22:31 Verso 31. ¿No habéis leído...?
Luke 7:36 Verse 36. One of the Pharisees — Called Simon, Luke 7:40. This account is considered by many critics and commentators to be the same with that in Matthew 26:6, c., Mark 14:3 and John 12:3. This subject is considered pretty much at large in the notes on Matthew 26:6, &c., to which the reader is requested to refer.
Luke 7:36 Versículo 36. Uno de los fariseos, llamado Simón... Lucas 7:40.
John 17:24 Verse 24. That they may behold my glory — That they may enjoy eternal felicity with me in thy kingdom. So the word is used, John 3:3; Matthew 5:8. The design of Christ is, that all who believe should love and obey, persevere unto the end, and be eternally united to himself, and the ever blessed God, in the kingdom of glory.
2 Thessalonians 3:3 Verse 2 Thessalonians 3:3. From evil. — Απο του πονηρου may be translated, from the devil or from the evil one. They had disorderly men, wicked men, and the evil one or the devil, to contend with; God alone could support and give them the victory; he had promised to do it, and he might ever be confided in as being invariably faithful.
Hebrews 3:15 Verse 15. While it is said, To-day — You may see the necessity of perseverance from the saying, "Today, if ye will hear his voice," therefore harden not your hearts-do not neglect so great a salvation; hold fast what ye have obtained, and let no man take your crown. See on Hebrews 3:7-9, and Hebrews 3:12.
Hebrews 4:14 particle ουν, which we translate seeing, as if what followed was an immediate inference from what the apostle had been speaking, should be translated now; for the apostle, though he had before mentioned Christ as the High Priest of our profession, Hebrews 3:1, and as the High Priest who made reconciliation for the sins of the people, Hebrews 2:17, does not attempt to prove this in any of the preceding chapters, but now enters upon that point, and discusses it at great length to the end of chap. Hebrews
Hebreos
1 Samuel 3:15 Verse 1 Samuel 3:15. Samuel feared to show Eli — He reverenced him as a father, and he feared to distress him by showing what the Lord had purposed to do. It does not appear that God had commanded Samuel to deliver this message: he, therefore, did not attempt it till adjured by Eli, 1 Samuel 3:17.
1 Samuel 3:15 Versículo 1 Samuel 3:15 . Samuel temía contarle a Elí.
