1 Kings 10:15 There is no mention in the original of “spice merchants.” Two classes of traders are spoken of; but both expressions are general.Kings of Arabia - Rather, “kings of the mingled people” (compare Jeremiah 25:24). These were probably tribes half Jewish, half Arabian, on the borders of the western desert. They are regarded as Arabs by the author of Chronicles (marginal reference).Governors - The word used here is thought to be of Aryan origin. It appears
1 Chronicles 29:3 Of mine own proper good - i. e., from his own private estate. He makes the offering publicly in order to provoke others by his example 1 Chronicles 29:5.
2 Chronicles 23:4 The writer of Chronicles relates the orders that were given to the Levites, the author of Kings those received by the royal body-guard (2 Kings 11:5 note).
Nehemiah 5:15 Forty shekels of silver - A daily sum from the entire province. For such a table as that kept by Nehemiah Nehemiah 5:18, this would be a very moderate payment.
Job 30:31 harp also is turned to mourning - What formerly gave cheerful sounds, now gives only notes of plaintiveness and lamentation. The harp was probably an instrument originally designed to give sounds of joy. The apostle resumes the statement or proposition made in Romans 5:12, and after the intermediate explanation in the parenthesis Romans 5:13-17, in this verse and the following, sums up the whole subject. The explanation, therefore, of the previous verses is designed to convey the real meaning of Romans 5:18-19.As
