Romans 11:17-21
11:17-21: But if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive, wast grafted in among them, and didst become partaker with them of the root of the fatness of the olive tree; 18 glory not over the branches: but if thou gloriest,
Romans 13:1
13:1: Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the (powers) that be are ordained of God.
In the previous chapter Paul presented lots of information about Christian living. This chapter provides practical
Romans 4:6-8
4:6-8: Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works, 7 (saying), Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, And whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will
1 Corinthians 1:10
1:10: Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and (that) there be no divisions among you; but (that) ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
At the beginning
1 Corinthians 1:28-31
1:28-31: and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, (yea) and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are: 29 that no flesh should glory before God. 30 But of him are ye in Christ
1 Corinthians 10:9
10:9: Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.
Now we come to a fourth failure of the Hebrew people. While Israel was on the way to Canaan it decided to “make trial” of the “Lord”
1 Corinthians 11:24
11:24: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, This is my body, which is for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Paul knew many things about the institution of the Lord’s Supper (verse 23) and this knowledge included the specifics
1 Corinthians 11:27
11:27: Wherefore whosoever shall eat the bread or drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
The word “wherefore” points back to the Lord’s Supper being a proclamation of
1 Corinthians 11:3
11:3: But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
God made mankind (Genesis 1:26-27) and He intended for males and females to have and fulfill specific roles,
1 Corinthians 12:2
12:2: Ye know that when ye were Gentiles (ye were) led away unto those dumb idols, howsoever ye might be led.
This verse is based upon the Corinthians’ lives before converting to Christianity. Before becoming members of the New Testament church,
1 Corinthians 14:20
14:20: Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.
The Corinthians did not yet have the full revelation of the New Testament (1 Corinthians 13:8-13), but they did have enough information to show some spiritual
1 Corinthians 14:26
14:26b: hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying
In addition to the Corinthians bringing psalms to their assemblies (the first part of verse 26), some also brought a “teaching”
1 Corinthians 15:24-26
15:24-26: Then (cometh) the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy
1 Corinthians 15:27-28
15:27-28: For, He put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that he is excepted who did subject all things unto him. 28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall
1 Corinthians 4:3-4
4:3-4: But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. 4 For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
In the previous
1 Corinthians 7:25
7:25: Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be trustworthy.
The phrase “now concerning” is found elsewhere in this letter (7:1; 8:1; 12:1; 16:12).
1 Corinthians 8:4
8:4: Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is (anything) in the world, and that there is no God but one.
As stated in the commentary on verse 1, there are two words for “know” in this chapter
