1 Kings 19:10 It occurs in 2 Samuel 5:10 , but in narrative, not address. "The LORD ( Jehovah ) God ( Elohim ) of hosts" occurs only here in Kings and Chronicles. Often in Psalms ( 1Ki 59:6 ; 1Ki 69:6 ; 1Ki 80:4 , 1Ki 80:19 ; 1Ki 84:8 ; 1Ki 89:8 ). In Isaiah 10:23 , Isaiah 10:24 ; Isaiah 22:5 , Isaiah 22:12 , Isaiah 22:14 , Isaiah 22:15 ; Isaiah 28:22 .Jeremiah 2:19 ; Jeremiah 5:14 ; Jeremiah 15:16 ; Jeremiah 35:17 ; Jeremiah 49:5 ; Jeremiah 50:25 , Jeremiah 50:31 .Hosea 12:5 .Amos 5:15 . Isaiah 28:16 reference to Isaiah 49:24 . It is the Immanuel (of Isaiah 7:0 ), the promised Son (of Isaiah 9:0 ), the rod from Jesse's stem (of Isaiah 11:0 ).
a tried stone = a test stone: i.e. tested itself, and testing others. Compare Isaiah 28:17 , and Zechariah 3:9 .
a sure foundation. Figure of speech Polyptoton ( App-6 ), for emphasis. Hebrew a foundation founded: i.e. a wellfounded foundation, or a firm or sure foundation.
not make haste = be constant, steady, not fleeing away. See note on Proverbs
Joel 3:2 or people from all nations.
the valley of Jehoshaphat. Between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives. The name then existing is still preserved in the village of Sh'afat; now the Wady Sidi Miriam and Wady Far'aun . Mentioned only here, and in Joel 3:12 ; the event recorded in 2 Chronicles 20:21-26 being typical of this scene of the future judgment of the nations. Note "to this day".
Jehoshaphat = Jehovah hath judged.
will plead with them = will judge them. Note the Figure of speech Paronomasia

Jonah 3:5 Nineveh declared it needful. (see Professor Sayce, The Higher Criticism and the Monuments, (pp 489, 490) by the Persians in a national trouble; in Greece, a fast which included cattle (Herodotus, ix. 24) and by Alexander the Great (Plutarch, Pelop && 33, 34). This decline of Nineveh gave hope to Israel: which hope had been encouraged by the prophet Jonah himself (2 Kings 14:25-27 ). This may have been the reason for Jonah's not wishing to avert the overthrow (Jonah 3:4 ) of Nineveh, by giving it the
