Isaiah 16:4 people, since the injuries done to them affect him in the same manner as if they had been done to himself; as he declares by Zechariah, that whenever they are touched, the apple of his eye is touched. (Zechariah 2:8.) He hears the groaning, (Psalms 102:20,) and observes the tears, of wretched men who call upon him; (Psalms 12:5;) and though this be not always visible to us, yet in due season he shows that he has heard them.
Let us therefore learn from this passage to be kind and dutiful to fugitives
Isaiah 25:6 family; but now he admits the Gentiles also, and extends his beneficence to all nations.

Jeremiah 16:10 reminded here of their duty, not to vacinate when they have to do with proud and intractable men. Jeremiah 6:29 chastised thee:”
and Jeremiah has before said,
“In vain have I chastised my children; they have not received correction.” (Jeremiah 2:30)
So also it is said by Isaiah,
“Alas! vengeance must I take on my enemies,” (Isaiah 1:24)
but to what purpose? He afterwards adds, that it was without any benefit, because their wickedness was incurable.
The first meaning, however, is not to be rejected, for it was not unsuitable to say, that the tongue of the Prophet was worn out
Ezekiel 13:5 protected by the hand of God. What follows has the same object, that they should stand in the battle in the day of the Lord; that is, to oppose themselves to God’s vengeance. This relates to prayers, when mention is made of Phinehas, in Psalms 106:30, and also in the same psalm, Psalms 106:23, where it is said of Moses, Unless Moses had stood in the breach to turn away God’s wrath. Here also, as I have said, the Prophet looks rather to doctrine. For here he sharply rebukes the folly of
Ezekiel 16:52 the Israelites and the Sodomites, not by absolving them in any sentence passed on them, but because they were worthy of double condemnation; as Christ says, In the last day it shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah than for the Jews. (Matthew 11:24.) But what is here said of condemnation has another meaning — that the Jews insulted over their brethren when they saw their kingdom destroyed, and the Israelites driven away from their land. Since they spoke so proudly of the slaughter of
Ezekiel 9:2 appeared before the altar. But he calls the altar which Solomon had built of square stones brazen: even the brazen altar was not sufficient, but it looks to its first origin.
