Psalms 5:1-12
This is a morning prayer before going to the sanctuary. The chief difficulty in ascribing it to David lies in the reference (Psalms 5:7) to ’thy holy temple.’ The word means a ’palace,’ and is not strictly applicable to the tent which David provided for the ark (2 Samuel 6:17). But it was used of the sanctuary at Shiloh. (1 Samuel 1:9), and may have been poetically
Psalms 52:1-9 and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.’ In some respects Doeg (1 Samuel 22:9) might stand for the original of the wicked man in this Ps., but the absence of all reference to the massacre of the priests at Nob (1 Samuel 22:17-19) throws grave doubt upon the correctness of the title. The Ps. appears to reflect the social evils denounced by the prophets of later times (see Amos 5:11; Amos 8:6; Micah 2:2; Micah 3:2-3; Micah 7:3), and to be directed against some prominent oppressor,

1. The speaker is the prophet, either in his own person, or in that of the Servant of Jehovah. The mission here spoken of is identical with the mission of the Servant as already indicated; e.g. to bind up, etc. (cp. Isaiah 42:3, Isaiah 42:7), and, again, proclaim liberty, etc. (cp. Isaiah 42:7; Isaiah 49:9). This phrase is taken from the law of the year of jubilee (Leviticus 25:8-10). Our Lord applies the passage to His own work in Luke 4:16. Anointed] i.e. to prophetic office (1 Kings

Ezekiel 44:4-31 were to exercise the priesthood in future (Ezekiel 44:15-16). No mention is made of the high priest. Various regulations follow as to the priests, clothing, marriage, public duties, defilement and purification, and sacrificial perquisites (Ezekiel 44:17-31). This passage has an important bearing on the date of certain parts of the Pentateuch (see Intro.).

Numbers 34:1-29 Sea (Numbers 34:5). The ’River of Egypt’ is not the Nile but a brook, now identified with the Wady el-Arish, flowing into the sea about 20 m. S. of Gaza. It is frequently mentioned as the SW. border of Canaan: see 1 Kings 8:65; 2 Kings 24:7; 2 Chronicles 7:8; Isaiah 27:12. This southern boundary was also the boundary of Judah and Simeon: see Joshua 15:1-4; Joshua 19:9.
