The double accusative after verbs of doing and saying of or to any one is the common construction. See Kühner, Gr. ii. p. 225. Cf. Xen. Cyr. iii. 2. 15, οὐδεπώποτε ἐπαύοντο πολλὰ κακὰ ἡμᾶς ποιοῦντες .
Luke 12:47-48 — 47, 48. ] Primarily , in reference to the question in Luke 12:41 , οἱ γνόντες = ἡμεῖς , the disciples. οἱ μὴ γνόντες = πάντες , the multitude: but the application is not limited to this: the truth is one of universal extent. The 47th verse needs little explanation: after both πολλάς and ὀλίγας , πληγάς
Luke 2:29 — 29. ] ἀπολύεις , not τοῦ ζῆν , or ἐκ τῆς γῆς , but as being τὸν δοῦλόν σου , he thinks of his death as the termination of, and so dismissal from, his servitude . Meyer. John 1:46 — 46. ] It does not appear where Nathanael was found: but he is described, ch. John 21:2 , as ὁ ἀπὸ Κανᾶ τῆς Γαλιλαίας : and as we find Jesus there, ch. John 2:1 , it is probable the call may have taken place in its neighbourhood. Nathanael (“ נְהַנְאֵל , i. q. Θεόδωρος , gift of God.” Wordsw.) is mentioned only in these
John 5:14 — 14. ] The knowledge of our Lord extended even to the sin committed thirty-eight years ago, from which this long sickness had resulted, for so it is implied here. The χεῖρόν τι , as Trench observes (Mir. 254, edn. 2), “gives us an awful glimpse of the severity of God’s judgments:” see Matthew 12:45 .
John 8:12 — 12. ] The attempts of Bengel, Schulthess, and Stier, to establish a connexion with the passage concerning the woman taken in adultery are forced and harsh. It was, say they, the early morning ( Joh 8:2 ) and the sun was just rising, to which these words
Acts 21:11 — 11. ] Similar symbolical actions accompanying prophecy are found 1 Kings 22:11 ; Isaiah 20:2 ; Jeremiah 13:1 ff.; Eze 4:1 fr., 9 ff.; Acts 5:1 , &c. De Wette remarks that τάδε λέγει τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον is the N. T. prophetic formula, instead of τάδε λέγει ὁ κύριος of the O. T.
Acts 21:22 — 22. πάντως δ . συνελθ . πλ . ] Not, as E. V., Calv., Grot., Calov., ‘ the multitude must needs come together ,’ i.e. there must be a meeting of the whole church ( τὸ πλῆθος , ch. Chrysostom understands the words of the appearance of an angel , but the text hardly allows it. κολλ .] no stress attach thyself to .
Romans 11:33 — Tholuck: (1) “If these three genitives are co-ordinate, καί must stand either before all , or before the last only.” But in the case of three nouns placed co-ordinately in this manner, καί is prefixed to the two latter only, see ch. Romans 2:7 ; Romans 12:2 ; Luke 5:17 . (2) “ πλοῦτος is no qualitative idea, but only a quantitative idea.” But wherein the riches consist , is ordinarily indicated by the context; and here there can be but little doubt on the matter, if we compare

Galatians 3:13 — Meyer’s view, is certainly the only one which suits the context.
