Exodus 17:13 13. Joshua discomfited
Amalek—Victory at length decided in favor of Israel, and the
glory of the victory, by an act of national piety, was ascribed to
God (compare 1 John 5:4).

mountains which seem to bear up the sky ( :-).
astonished—namely, from
terror. Personification.
his reproof— ( :-). The thunder, reverberating from cliff to cliff (Habakkuk 3:10;

for ever and ever—qualifies
"mercy."
Leviticus 2:5 5. baken in a pan—a thin
plate, generally of copper or iron, placed on a slow fire, similar to
what the country people in Scotland called a "girdle" for
baking oatmeal cakes.
Isaiah 52:6 6. shall know in that day—when
Christ shall reveal Himself to Israel sensibly; the only means
whereby their obstinate unbelief shall be overcome (Psalms 102:16;
Zechariah 12:10; Zechariah 14:5).
Jeremiah 31:23 23. Jerusalem again shall be the
metropolis of the whole nation, the seat of "justice"
(Psalms 122:5-8; Isaiah 1:26),
and of sacred worship ("holiness," Isaiah 1:26- :) on "Mount" Moriah.
Jeremiah 42:14 14. where we shall see no war—Here
they betray their impiety in not believing God's promise (Jeremiah 42:10;
Jeremiah 42:11), as if He were a liar
(1 John 5:10).
Jeremiah 7:16 16. When people are given up to
judicial hardness of heart, intercessory prayer for them is
unavailing (Jeremiah 11:14; Jeremiah 14:11;
Jeremiah 15:1; Exodus 32:10;
1 John 5:16).
Ezekiel 30:12 12. rivers—the artificial
canals made from the Nile for irrigation. The drying up of these
would cause scarcity of grain, and so prepare the way for the
invaders (Isaiah 19:5-10).
Haggai 2:22 22. All other world kingdoms are
to be overthrown to make way for Christ's universal kingdom ( :-). War chariots are to give place to His reign of peace
(Micah 5:10; Zechariah 9:10).
Matthew 20:5 5. Again he went out about the sixth
and ninth hour—about noon, and about three o'clock in the
afternoon.
and did likewise—hiring
and sending into his vineyard fresh laborers each time.
Romans 12:4 4, 5. For as we have many members,
&c.—The same diversity and yet unity obtains in the body of
Christ, whereof all believers are the several members, as in the

to administer justice in the open air, or under the canopy of an
