Genesis 24:49 — And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left. That I may turn to the right hand, …, — i.e., Seek somewhere else: for something I must do, in answer to my trust. "It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful". 1 Corinthians 4:2

Genesis 8:2 — The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; And the rain from heaven was restrained. — These four keys, say the Rabbis, God keeps under his own belt: 1. Of the womb; 2. Of the grave; 3. Of the rain; 4. Of the heart. "He openeth, and no man shutteth; he shutteth and no man openeth". Revelation 3:7

Exodus 15:3 — The LORD [is] a man of war: the LORD [is] his name. The Lord is a man of war. — Yea, he alone is a whole army of men, van and rear both. Isaiah 52:12 He sends the sword; Ezekiel 14:17 musters the men; Isaiah 13:4 orders the ammunition; Jeremiah 50:25 gives the victory: whence he is here styled by the Chaldee, The Lord and Victor of wars.

Exodus 20:25 — And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. Thou hast polluted. — Not polished it. But all things that are, … — Or, But all these things, viz. these unfruitful works of darkness, while they are reproved or discovered by the light (viz. of the word, as 1 Corinthians 14:24 ; Hebrews 4:12 ), are made manifest; so that thereby they grow abashed and abased before God and men.

Colossians 3:9 — Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; Lie not one to another — No, not in jest, lest ye go to hell in earnest. 1 Thessalonians 4:12 — That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. Lack of nothing — He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand, but the hand of the diligent maketh rich, Proverbs 10:4 . Jabal that dwelt in tents and tended herds had Jubal to his brother, the father of music. Jabal and Jubal, industry and plenty, not without sweet content, dwell together.

2 Thessalonians 3:12 — Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. That with quietness — Being no meddler in other men’s matters, but minding his own. Res tuas age. The pragmatic person is an odious person, and the place where he lives longs for a vomit to spew him out. See Trapp on " 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "

Hebrews 13:13 — Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. Bearing his reproach — The reproach of saints is the reproach of Christ, and their sufferings his, Colossians 1:24 ; Nehemiah 4:3-5 . God is more provoked than Nehemiah. He that saith, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," repays ofttimes, when we have forgiven, when we have forgotten; and calls to reckoning after our discharges.

2 Peter 1:3 — According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: To glory and virtue — To glory as the end, to virtue as the means. The very heathens made their passage to the temple of honour through the temple of virtue. Do worthily, and be famous, Ruth 4:11 .

Revelation 19:7 — Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Hath made herself ready — Being first made ready by the grace of Christ. Certain est nos facere quod facimus; sed ille facit ut faciamus. (Aug.) The bowls of the candlestick had no oil but that which dropped from the olive branches, Zechariah 4:12 .
