1 Kings 8:3 — And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. Israel, though revolted and degenerated into Jezreel, Hosea 1:4 , shall cry, yea, cry aloud, vociferabuntur, cry till they are hoarse, as criers do;

Numbers 3:9 — And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they [are] wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel. They are wholly given unto him. — Heb. They are given, they are given. So the ministers of the gospel are called "gifts"; Ephesians 4:8 ; Ephesians 4:11 honoraries; such as Christ bestowed upon his Church at the day of his coronation, and solemn inauguration into his throne, at his wonderful ascension.

Matthew 28:17 — And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. They worshipped him, but some doubted — Even while they worshipped, they doubted; yet was not their worship rejected. The Lord knoweth his still, 2 Timothy 2:19 . But they know not him still, as here in this text; howbeit they are "known of him,"Galatians 4:9; Galatians 4:9 , and their whole way both known and approved, Psalms 1:6 .

Mark 4:36 — And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. They took him — viz. Luke 19:9 — And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. He also is a son of Abraham — That is, freely elected,Romans 9:1; Romans 9:1 , a follower of Abraham’s faith,Romans 4:12; Romans 4:12 , and a doer of his works, John 8:39 . Who then can say but he is his son, and shall rest in his bosom?

John 4:25 — The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. I know that Messias, … — As who should say, we are not altogether so ignorant as you would make us,John 4:23; John 4:23 . A dead woman must have four men to carry her out, as the proverb is: we are apt to think our penny good silver.

John 8:23 — And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. Ye are from beneath — Vos infernales estis, Ego Supernus. (Beza.) So the wicked are called the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea, Revelation 12:12 , in opposition to the Church, which is said to be in heaven, and called "Jerusalem which is above,"Galatians 4:26; Galatians 4:26 .

Acts 21:1 — — ευθυδρομησαντες . So shall all those that make "straight paths for their feet," Hebrews 12:13 , whose eyes look straight before them, Proverbs 4:25 , who ponder their paths by the weights of the word, Proverbs 4:26 .

2 Timothy 4:9 — Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: Do thy diligence, … — We want much of our comfort in the want of a friend,Ecclesiastes 4:9; Ecclesiastes 4:9 . Optimum solatium sodalitium. How doth David bemoan the loss of Jonathan! How did Dr Taylor prize the company of his fellow prisoner, that angel of God, as he called him, John Bradford! What a mercy did St Paul count it that sick Epaphroditus recovered! Philippians 2:27 .

Hebrews 1:7 — And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. A flame of fire — Hence they are called seraphims, because they flame, like heavenly salamanders, in the fire of pure and perfect love to God and his people; and cherubims, from their winged swiftness; swift they are as the wind; which may seem to be the sense of this text, compared withPsalms 104:4-5; Psalms 104:4-5 .

Hebrews 11:30 — By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. By faith the walls of Jericho — So do daily the strongholds of hell, 2 Corinthians 10:4 . See Trapp on " 2 Corinthians 10:4 " Wherein, albeit the Lord requite our continual endeavours for the subduing of our corruptions during the six days of this life, yet we shall never find it perfectly effected till the very evening of our last day.
