Psalms 31:22 — thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. For I said in my haste, I am cut off, … — A frightful and sinful saying, doubtless, full of diffidence and despair. See the like Psalms 116:11 Job 9:16 Judges 13:22 John 2:4; John 2:4 . Thus he spake when he, trembling, fled, and was posting away. Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplication — A pitiful poor one though it were, and full of infirmity. God considereth whereof we are made; he taketh not advantages
Psalms 37:24 — Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth [him with] his hand. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down — See Proverbs 24:16 . If he fall, yet he falleth forward; and if he be cast down, yet be continueth not, Quum ruit non corruit (Vat.); so 2 Corinthians 4:9 ; as do the wicked, Ezekiel 32:4 , whom God casteth into the briers, and there leaveth them. For the Lord upholdeth
Psalms 50:22 — [there be] none to deliver. Now consider this, ye that forget God — That cast him and his counsels behind your backs, before he awaken your drowsy consciences, and rouse up the lion that lieth sleeping in your bosoms, like Cain’s dog, Genesis 4:7 , with his dog-sleep; and before you come to answer for all, with flames about your ears. Lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver you — From the wolf a shepherd may rescue his lamb, not so from the hungry lion, Amos 3:12 Isaiah
Psalms 64:5 — complaint, and showeth how, by the neglect of piety and humanity, they were grown obdurate and obstinate, yea, confident, or rather impudent, in their evil practices. They commune of laying snares privily — viz. To entangle and entrap me. See Nehemiah 4:11 , See Trapp on " Nehemiah 4:11 " They say, Who shall see them? — God, who is all eye, shall, but they, having hid God from themselves, think they can likewise hide themselves and their snares from God. But - εχει

Matthew 15:7 — of them only with whom they lived, and to whom they wrote (as the Jesuits blaspheme), but their oracles and doctrines do extend still to men of the same stamp and making. "In the volume of thy book it is written of me," saith David, Psalms 40:7 ; he found his own name in God’s book. And where he spake with Jacob at Bethel, there he spake with us, saith Hosea; Hosea 12:4 and, "Whatsoever was written, was written for our learning," saith Paul, Romans 15:4 .
Matthew 26:46 — Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. Rise, let us be going — To meet that death which till he had prayed he greatly feared. So it was with Esther, Ezra 4:16 , and with David, Psalms 116:3-4 . See the power of faithful prayer to disarm death, and to alter the countenance of greatest danger. Quoties me oratio, quem paene desperantem susceperat, reddidit exultantem, …? How oft hath prayer recruited
Deuteronomy 8:3 — afflictionum, … August. That he might make thee know. — We never know so well, how good, sweet, and seasonable the Lord is, as when under the cross. Vexatio dat intellecture. That man cloth not live. — See Trapp on " Matthew 4:4 "

Revelation 6:1 — And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. One of the seals — That is, the first of the seals, as Genesis 1:4 ; Mark 16:2 . Under these seven seals falls Rome pagan (saith Mr Cotton), as under the seven trumpets Rome Christian, under the seven vials Rome antichristian. So all the judgments in the Revelation are still upon Rome. Hence Mr Dent calls his exposition
1 Samuel 1:10 — And she [was] in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed. — Herein she took a right course to get comfort. So did David, Psalms 109:4 and Paul, 1 Corinthians 4:13 "being defamed we pray." If she should have rendered to Peninnah railing for railing, there would have been somewhat to do. Prayer and patience are the best antidotes against contempt and contumelies; the one hot,
