2 Chronicles 1:7 — In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. In that night. — See on 1 Kings 3:5 . Did God appear. — That this was a divine dream, Solomon was sufficiently sensible, by the great wisdom wherewith he found himself indued when he awoke.

2 Chronicles 12:6 — Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD [is] righteous. Whereupon the princes of Israel. — That is, Of Judah, as 2 Chronicles 12:1 . And the king humbled themselves. — But feignedly and forcedly, see 2 Chronicles 12:14 as was that of Pharaoh and Ahab.

2 Chronicles 14:2 — And Asa did [that which was] good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God: And Asa did that which was good. — See 1 Kings 15:11 . In the eyes of the Lord. — Not in his own eyes, or the eyes of men, qui larvis ducuntur, which are oft bemisted.

2 Chronicles 18:5 — Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver [it] into the king’s hand. Four hundred prophets. — An ecumenical council. See on 1 Kings 2:6 .

2 Chronicles 4:7 — And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set [them] in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left. And he made ten candlesticks of gold, according to their form. — According to David’s pattern. Five on the right hand. — See 1 Kings 7:49 .

2 Chronicles 9:7 — Happy [are] thy men, and happy [are] these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom. Which stand continually before thee. — Those that saw Christ in the flesh had therein a happiness; Matthew 13:17 how much more such as see him in heaven! See on 1 Kings 10:8 .

Psalms 112:8 — His heart [is] established, he shall not be afraid, until he see [his desire] upon his enemies. His heart is established — Heb. underpropped, shored up. He shall not be afraid — Of any adverse power, Psalms 3:6 ; Psalms 27:1 Until he see his desire — Which his faith will once work out.

Psalms 135:2 — Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God, Ye that stand in the house — See Psalms 134:1 . In the courts — Where the people also had a place, 2 Chronicles 4:9 , and are required to bear a part in this heavenly Hallelujah.

Psalms 97:3 — fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. A fire goeth before him — For even our God is a consuming fire, Hebrews 12:29 (and not the God of the Jews only), as shall well appear at the last day, 2 Thessalonians 1:8 . See Trapp on " Psalms 97:2 "

Deuteronomy 9:8 — Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you. The Lord was angry. — God is said to be angry when he doeth as an angry man useth to do: viz., (1.) Chide; (2.) Smite: revenge being the next effect of anger.

1 Samuel 10:17 — And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh; To Mizpeh. — Whither also, for the purpose, he had appointed the ark to be brought, and the high priest to repair with Urim and Thummim, to ask counsel of God, and to cast lots, 1 Samuel 10:22 as Junius here noteth.

1 Samuel 18:2 — And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Saul took him that day. — According as Samuel had foretold, 1 Samuel 8:11-12 and for a step to the kingdom, whereunto he was anointed, and no less assured. See Psalms 63:11 .

1 Samuel 29:1 — Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which [is] in Jezreel. To Aphek. — Which was contiguous to Shunem. 1 Samuel 28:4 Which is in Jezreel. — This also was near to mount Gilboa. Chronology and topography are the two eyes of history.

2 Samuel 24:6 — Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon, To the land of Tahtimhodshi. — In terram inferiorem recens comparatam, into the lower lands recently conquered; sc., in the days of Saul, 1 Chronicles 5:10 so Junius rendereth, and senseth it.

2 Samuel 8:16 — And Joab the son of Zeruiah [was] over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud [was] recorder; Was over the host. — This honour he had purchased by his valour, 1 Chronicles 11:6 but forfeited by his blood-guiltiness. And Jehoshaphat … was recorder. — Or, Chancellor of the kingdom, or chief chronicler.
