2 Kings 11:10 — And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that [were] in the temple of the LORD. King David’s spears and shields. — Kept in the temple for trophies and tokens of thanksgiving: such as were Goliath’s sword, 1 Samuel 21:9 and the Syrians’ shields. 2 Samuel 8:7 ; 2 Samuel 8:11

2 Kings 11:13 — And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard [and] of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the LORD. And when Athaliah heard. — See on 2 Kings 11:1 . She came to the people. — Without any mistrust or fear; but not without a special providence, that the warders might have her in their power.

2 Kings 25:11 — Now the rest of the people [that were] left in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carry away. 2 Kings 9:4 — So the young man, [even] the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead. 1 Chronicles 11:15 — Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim. Now three of the thirty captains. — Or, Three captains over the thirty. These first famous three jointly did the following exploit. See 1 Chronicles 11:19 .

1 Chronicles 23:3 — Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. Now the Levites were numbered. — Not as the people had been, 1 Chronicles 21:5-6 out of curiosity and vainglory: but on piety and prudence, and by a divine instinct.

1 Chronicles 25:7 — So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, [even] all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight. Were two hundred fourscore and eight. — That served in the temple; the rest of the four thousand 1 Chronicles 23:5 were employed, some think, in the synagogues.

1 Chronicles 27:7 — The fourth [captain] for the fourth month [was] Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand. And Asahel the brother of Joab. — Asahel was slain in the beginning of David’s reign. 2 Samuel 2:23 Sed hoc memoriae datum est fortissimi viri. So 1 Chronicles 11:26 .

2 Chronicles 1:10 — Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, [that is so] great? Give me now wisdom and knowledge. — Knowledge to discern, and wisdom to do that which is right. That I may go out, … — See on 1 Kings 3:7 .

2 Chronicles 1:17 — And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred [shekels] of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out [horses] for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means. And Solomon had horses, … — See 1 Kings 10:28-29 .

2 Chronicles 3:15 — Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that [was] on the top of each of them [was] five cubits. Also he made before the house two pillars. — These were cast by Hiram, as great ordnance are now-a-days, round and hollow. See on 1 Kings 7:15 .

2 Chronicles 5:1 — Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in [all] the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God. Thus all the work. — See 1 Kings 7:51 .

Psalms 106:13 — They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: They soon forgat his works — Heb. They made haste, they forgat. This is an aggravating circumstance. See Galatians 1:6 Exodus 32:8 Deuteronomy 9:16 . They waited not for his counsel — For the performance of what he had purposed and promised; they were short-spirited and impatient.

Psalms 106:35 — But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. But were mingled among the heathen — With whom they made leagues and marriages, Judges 1:3 , and so were soon corrupted by them. It is dangerous to converse with graceless people, their very example is a compulsion; see Galatians 2:14 ; how much more their evil counsel!

Psalms 108:1 — « A Song [or] Psalm of David. » O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. O God, my heart is fixed — For Psalms 108:1-5 of this psalm, see the notes on Psalms 57:7-11 . And for Psalms 108:6-13 , see the notes on Psalms 60:5-12 .

Psalms 26:11 — But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me. But as for me, I will walk — Whatever others do, their example shall be no rule to me to deviate. See my Righteous Man’s Recompense, D. 1. Redeem me, … — For I am likely to suffer deeply for my singularity.

Psalms 59:16 — But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. In the morning — That time wherein they thought to have surprised me, 1 Samuel 19:11 , but thou hast secured me. See Isaiah 65:14 .

Psalms 69:24 — Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. Pour out thine indignation upon them — By indignation, saith Basil, we are to understand speedy vengeance; by wrath, durable. This is befallen the nation of the Jews to the utmost, 1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 , or to the end, as some render it.

Psalms 75:9 — But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. But I will declare for ever — viz. God’s great goodness in mine advancement to the kingdom, and the rest of those wonderful works, Psalms 75:1 . I will sing praises, … — This thankful man was worth his weight in the gold of Ophir.

Psalms 91:9 — Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the most High, thy habitation; Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, … — Because thou hast done as I do, thou shalt speed as I have sped; for God is rich in mercy to all his. Even the Most High thy habitation — See Psalms 90:1 .
