1 Kings 11:23
And God stirred him up [another] adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, which fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah:
And God stirred him up, … — See on 1 Kings 11:14 .
Which fled from his lord Hadadezer. — Whom David had beaten. 2 Samuel 10:18 ; 2 Samuel 8:3-4 False friends will be the causes, but not companions of calamity.
1 Kings 16:9
And his servant Zimri, captain of half [his] chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of [his] house in Tirzah.
And his servant Zimri. — Perhaps he of Saul’s posterity. 1 Chronicles 8:36
Drinking himself drunk. — Haply to put away the fear of death, like as Tacitus saith, Vitelius trepidus, dein temulentus.
1 Kings 20:2

And he sent messengers. — As presuming they should find that favour with Ahab which himself denied to Ahab’s messengers, whom he commanded to be taken alive, whatsoever their errand was. This was against the law of arms. 1 Kings 20:18
1 Kings 9:5

Then will I establish. — See on 1 Kings 2:4 .
For ever. — That is, For a long season; till Shiloh come, and a period be put to the Jewish polity.
2 Kings 1:5
And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?
Why are ye now turned back? — Re infecta, as he thought; but they returned unto him with heavy tidings, as 1 Kings 14:6 . "An evil man seeketh only rebellion, therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him." Proverbs 17:11
2 Kings 13:6
Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, [but] walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
Nevertheless they departed not. — Though first plagued, and then saved, yet they remained irreclaimable.
And there remained the grove. — Ahab’s grove. 1 Kings 16:33 Ballism, therefore, was not utterly abolished by Jehu.

And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which [was] sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
And all the people of Judah took Azariah. — Called also Uzziah. 2 Chronicles 26:1 Itaque hic duo nomina habuit confinia, Consilium Domini et Auxilium Dei, saith Vatablus: His two names were suitable, God’s counsel, and God’s help.
2 Kings 3:1
Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
In the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat. — But in the second year of Jehoram, 2 Kings 1:17 whom his father Jehoshaphat had made viceroy; but misliking his son’s evil practices, as it is probable, he resumed the sceptre.
1 Chronicles 11:19
And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with [the jeopardy of] their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
These things did these three mightiest. — See on 1 Chronicles 11:15 .
1 Chronicles 11:5
And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which [is] the city of David. 1 Chronicles 11:6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

1 Chronicles 25:3

And Coz begat Anub. — Who this Coz was, we read not anywhere: Videntur lacunae quaedam esse in hoc capite. Some think he was one of the sons of Ashur by his wife Helah: though he be not reckoned with the rest. 1 Chronicles 4:7

And Johanan. — Alias Jehoiadah. 2 Chronicles 23:1
He it is that executed the priest’s office. — Whether we understand it of the father or the son, we do not amiss: Nam uterque se strenue gessit in sacerdotio, they were gallant men both.
2 Chronicles 1:11
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
Thou hast not asked riches. — See 1 Kings 3:11 .
2 Chronicles 11:18
And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, [and] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
The daughter of Jerimoth the son of David. — By some concubine likely. See 1 Chronicles 3:9 .
The daughter of Eliab. — All his three wives here mentioned were of David’s family, and of his own kindred.
2 Chronicles 11:21
And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
He took Maachah, the daughter of Absalom, — i.e., His niece by his sister, or his daughter Tamar, whose husband haply was called Uriel. See 1 Kings 15:2 .
2 Chronicles 20:30
So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
For his God gave him rest. — "It is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble his: and to them who are troubled, rest," if not afore, yet at least "when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven," … 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7
2 Chronicles 7:7
Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that [was] before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Moreover, Solomon hallowed. — See on 1 Kings 8:64 .
2 Samuel 3:22
And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from [pursuing] a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner [was] not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
Joab came from pursuing a troop. — Of foragers and brigands; Philistines likely. Spoilers shall be spoiled. Isaiah 33:1
2 Samuel 6:18
And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
He blessed the people. — And feasted them besides, which was more than he did when he was confirmed by them in his kingdom, 2 Samuel 5:1-3 to show his greater joy.
