2 Kings 14:4 — Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places. Howbeit the high places were not taken away. — So that he did not that which was right, … 2 Kings 14:3 - that which was, for the substance of it, approved of God - but with an exception: and was accepted accordingly. 2 Kings 7:18 — And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria: Two measures of barley. — See on 2 Kings 7:1 , and observe the infallibility of God’s both promises and menaces.

1 Chronicles 22:16 — Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, [there is] no number. Arise [therefore], and be doing, and the LORD be with thee. There is no number. — See 1 Chronicles 22:14 . Arise therefore, and be doing. — Up and at it, laying hold on the opportunity of time, which is, saith one, aliquid aggrediendi atque conficiendi facultas, the best advantage of any business.

1 Chronicles 26:23 — Of the Amramites, [and] the Izharites, the Hebronites, [and] the Uzzielites: Amramites, — i.e., The posterity of Amram by his son Moses; who upon some occasion - to avoid superstition or usurpation of some pre-eminence forbidden by the Lord - did not leave his own name to his children, but let them pass in the common name of Levites and Amramites. 1 Chronicles 28:20 — And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do [it]: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, [even] my God, [will be] with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD. 2 Chronicles 1:3 — So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that [was] at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. Went to the high place. — This word is usually taken in an ill sense: but here in a good. Vatab. See on 1 Kings 3:4 .

2 Chronicles 2:7 — Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that [are] with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide. Send me now therefore a man. — See 1 Kings 7:13-14 .

2 Chronicles 3:9 — And the weight of the nails [was] fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers. — These were, saith Diodate, certain principal rooms of the building of the porticoes, appointed for the holy ministers to make their meals in, like unto refectories; or else for places of meetings and counsel. Psalms 106:12 — Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. Then believed they his words — Then for a flash, while the memory of the mercy was fresh and warm; but ere they were three days older they murmured again; it proved not so much as a nine days’ wonderment; they were soon at oldward. They sang his praise — Exodus 15:1-21 A temporary faith and joy.

Psalms 107:4 — εστι κακωτερον αλλο βροτοισι . And yet this is the case of all God’s redeemed ones while they are here, Hebrews 11:38 1 Peter 2:12 . Tendimus in patriam veram vitamque perennem.

Psalms 109:23 — I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. I am gone like the shadow — Abii, perii, evanui, I vanish, as the long shadows do so soon as the sun setteth. As the locust — Leapeth from hedge to hedge, so do I from place to place, being tossed from post to pillar, αστατουμεν , 1 Corinthians 4:11

Psalms 119:61 — The bands of the wicked have robbed me: [but] I have not forgotten thy law. The bands of the wicked have robbed me — In these late stripping times many a poor man’s whole life’s settings were lost in an instant. But I have not forgotten thy law — I have encouraged myself in the Lord my God, as at the sack of Ziklag, 1 Samuel 30:6

Psalms 119:63 — I [am] a companion of all [them] that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. I am a companion of all them — Though never so mean, if there be aliquid Christi in them. Grace is of a uniting property, and purgeth out partiality, James 2:1-2 . That keep thy precepts — The best proof of true fear of God, Psalms 103:13 Acts 10:35 .

Psalms 69:32 — The humble shall see [this, and] be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God. The humble shall see this and be glad — David’s great care was for others’ confirmation and comfort; much more Christ’s, witness that holy prayer of his, John 17:9 Your heart shall live — Which before was all lifeless. Pray that ye may joy. David did so often, Psalms 6:1-10 , …

Psalms 74:23 — Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually. The tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth daily — Heb. ascendeth, viz. up to heaven, as John 1:2 , there is no ho with them. Mundi laetitia est impunita nequitia, If the Lord take them not a link lower, as we say, they will grow intolerably insolent.

Psalms 78:43 — How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: How he had wrought his signs in Egypt — That stage of wonders. See Psalms 78:12 . Psalms 86:4 — Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. Rejoice the soul of thy servant — True and solid joy entereth the soul by the door of fervent prayer. Pray that your joy may be full. I lift up my soul — In prayer, Psalms 25:1 , and confident expectation of an unmiscarrying return thereof, as Deuteronomy 24:15 .

Psalms 89:11 — The heavens [are] thine, the earth also [is] thine: [as for] the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine — Thou madest them by thy power, and thou maintainest them by thy providence; thou doest whatsoever thou wilt in both, Psalms 115:3 . Proverbs 23:1 — When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee: When thou sittest to eat. — See my Common Place of Abstinence. Consider diligently what is before thee. — And "feed with fear," Judges 1:12 lest thou lose by thy luxury that praise and preferment that thou hadst gotten by thine industry. Proverbs 22:9 ‘Non minor est virtus quam quaerere parta tueri.’

Proverbs 29:3 — Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth [his] substance.
