Genesis 6:17 examples, that will not take them. Who pities the second captain, consumed by fire with his company, 2 Kings 1:11-12 since he had a fair warning, but would not beware by it? "Behold the day of the Lord cometh, that shall burn as an oven," Malachi 4:1 This last day was foretold by Enoch, Judges 1:14 before the deluge was by Noah. Longer it is before it comes, but shall be more terrible when it is come.
Genesis 6:9 the heart is not upright, but increase wrath. It was an aggravation to Solomon’s sin, that God "had appeared unto him twice"; 1 Kings 11:9 and that he had been timely forewarned by his mother to beware of wine and women, Proverbs 31:3-4 both which he was afterwards, nevertheless, most inordinately addicted to.

Ready to distribute — A virtue much commended in the kings of Egypt (Diod. Sic. i.); practised by the Pythagoreans, Essenes, but especially by those primitive Christians, Acts 4:34-35 . See my Common Place of Alms, and to those many examples there set forth of Christian bounty, add that of Mr Fox, who never denied any that asked him aught for Jesus’ sake. And being once so asked by a poor man, he questioned him whether
2 Timothy 3:15 απο βρεφους , from a suckling. As all children, so those especially that are dedicated to the work of the ministry, should be betimes inured to Scripture learning. See Trapp on " 1 Timothy 4:6 " The story of Mistress Elizabeth Wheatenhall, daughter of Mr Anthony Wheatenhall, of Tenterden in Kent, late deceased, is very memorable. She being brought up by her aunt, the Lady Wheatenhall, before she was nine years old (not much above eight),
Hebrews 12:16 these particulars: 1. In that he was no sooner asked for the birthright but he yielded. 2. That he parted with it for a trifle, a little red, red, as he called it in his haste and hunger. 3. That he did this, being, as he thought, at point of death. 4. That he went his way when he had done, as if he had done no such thing, he showed no sign of remorse or regret. Hence he is four or five several times branded with, "This is Edom." This is he that had a low esteem of spiritual privileges,
James 4:6 , who thought himself first wiser than Daniel, Ezekiel 28:3 ; then, that he exceeded the high priest in all his ornaments,Ezekiel 28:13; Ezekiel 28:13 ; then, he thought himself to be above Adam, Ezekiel 28:13 ; then above the cherubims, Ezekiel 28:14 ; and lastly, he said he was God himself, and sat in the seat of God. 2 Peter 2:1 sense wherein it is said that the gods of Damascus smote or plagued Ahaz,2 Chronicles 28:23; 2 Chronicles 28:23 , that is, in his opinion they did so: for an idol is nothing in the world, and can do neither good nor evil, Jeremiah 10:5 ; 1 Corinthians 8:4 . Or, that bought them, viz. in laying down a sufficient price for all sinners, in taking upon him the common nature of all men, and in preaching to them in the gospel that he died for sinners indefinitely, offering salvation, and beseeching them to
Revelation 1:4 in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
From him which is — An august description of the Father by a manifest allusion to Exodus 3:14 . Some critic reading the words απο ο ων και ο ην as they lie in the original, would be apt to complain of an incongruity, and to say, Nove et duriter dictum. But God, methinks, should

Revelation 20:12 men shall rise again in that tall and goodly stature of body wherein Adam was created; or at least in that vigour of age that a perfect man is at about 33 years old, each in their proper sex. And hereunto some think, the apostle alludeth, Ephesians 4:13 . But Mr Brightman holds, that in the resurrection every one shall appear in that stature in which he departed out of this life, and that the contrary opinion doth manifestly contradict this Scripture.
And the books were opened — The books
