Genesis 28:4 — And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. And give thee the blessing of Abraham. — Here he is made "heir of the blessing," as are also all true Christians. 1 Peter 3:9 Caesar, when he was sad, said to himself, Cogita te esse Caesarem :so, think thou art an heir of heaven, and be sad if thou canst.

Romans 11:1 — I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. I say then, Hath God, … — As I may seem to have said, Romans 10:1-21 Ministers must do their utmost to prevent mistakes. Zuinglius, when in his sermons he had terrified the wicked, was wont to shut up with Bone vir, hoc nihil ad te, Thou good man, I mean not thee.

Romans 3:2 — that, … — This was their prime privilege, that they were God’s library keepers, that this heavenly treasure was concredited unto them. Other nations are said to have been without God, because without those lively oracles, 2 Chronicles 15:3 ; Ephesians 2:12 . Prize we this privilege, and improve it. You must never expect another edition of the faith once received, Judges 1:3 , once for all.

Romans 4:17 — 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who quickeneth the dead — As he doth when he maketh a man a believer, Ephesians 1:19 ; he fetcheth heart of oak out of a hollow tree, and a spiritual man out of a wild ass colt. See both these metaphors, Job 11:12 .

Romans 8:39 — Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. For the love of God — viz. Wherewith he loved us. For he loveth his own to the end, and in the end, John 13:1 . See the note there. 1 Timothy 5:3 — Honour widows that are widows indeed. Eternal, and needed not succession, as Aaron; 3. Entering (not into the holy places made with hands, but) into heaven itself, Hebrews 9:23 .

Revelation 11:6 — These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. That it rain not — That the influence of divine grace be withheld from those that despise the gospel; so that they become as those mountains of Gilboa, 2 Samuel 1:21 , or that accursed earth,Hebrews 6:8; Hebrews 6:8 .

Revelation 9:8 — And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. As the hair of women — Insinuative, and inductive to sin. As the teeth of lions — Joel 1:6 . Catching and carrying to their dens all they can come by, as Tecelius did out of Germany, as Otto sent by Gregory IX did out of England, where he left not so much money as he either carried with him or sent to Rome before him.
