Y él dijo: He aquí [aquí] estoy.
Ver. 1. Dios tentó a Abraham. ] La tentación es doble - (1.) Probationis (2.)
Genesis 34:28
They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which [was] in the city, and that which [was] in the field,
They took their sheet, … — One only sinned; all suffered. "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump". 1 Corinthians 5:2 ; 1 Corinthians 5:6 All the Corinthians were tacked with, and taxed for, the incestuous man’s offence, because they bewailed it not, repressed it not He knew what he did, that prayed for pardon of his other men’s sins.
Zechariah 12:7 save the tents of Judah first — Or, as at first, sc. when they came out of Egypt, and had no strongholds to take to for their defence. "Lord" (saith Moses), "thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations," Psalms 90:1 . He was so of old, and ever will be; the faith whereof made the fathers well content to dwell in tents, Hebrews 11:13 , and those holy Rochabites, Jeremiah 35:7-8 , till Nebuchadnezzar came up into the land, Zechariah 12:11 . But here God promiseth
Zechariah 12:7 7.
Zechariah 8:23 compact, or fraudulent convention; for they were far asunder and of diverse languages ( nam quisquo aliis barbarus, saith Calvin).
Of the nations — For God manifested in the flesh was preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, …, 1 Timothy 3:16 .
Shall take hold, even take hold — As children do on their mother’s garments.
Of him that is a Jew — Who shall not shake them off, as bastard Gentiles, worthy (even the very best of them) to have their heads bruised with
Matthew 10:41 shall he give his host. Gaius lost nothing by such guests as John; nor the Shunammite or Sareptan by the prophets, Of such Christ seems to say, as Paul did of Onesimus, "If he owe thee ought, put that in mine account: I will repay it,"Philemon 1:18-19; Philemon 1:18-19: and he, I can tell you, is a liberal paymaster. Saul and his servant had but five pence in their purse to give the prophet, 1 Samuel 9:8 . The prophet, after much good cheer, gives him the kingdom. Such is God’s dealing
Matthew 16:27 the clouds (not that he needs them, but to show his sovereignty), environed with flaming fire, mounted on a stately throne, attended by an innumerable company of angels (for they shall all come with him, not one of them left in heaven, 2 Thessalonians 1:7 ; Matthew 25:31 ), who shall minister unto him in this great work irresistibly, justly, speedily, Revelation 15:6 , Christ himself shining in the midst of them, with such an exuberance and excess of glory, as that the sun shall seem but a snuff to
Luke 16:8 Christ who relateth this parable. Or if we understand it of Christ (as the Syriac here doth), yet he herein no more approveth of this steward’s false dealing than he doth of the usurer’s trade,Matthew 5:27; Matthew 5:27 ; or the thieves, 1 Thessalonians 5:2 ; or the dancers,Matthew 11:17; Matthew 11:17 ; or the Olympic games,1 Corinthians 9:24; 1 Corinthians 9:24 .
Because he had done wisely — The worldling’s wisdom serves him (as the ostrich’s wings) to make him outrun
Acts 26:2
I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:
I think myself happy — Est quaedam putativa felicitas, saith an interpreter here, si concedatur nobis causam nostram aperte agere. Beatitudo autem vera in peccatorum remissione, …,Psalms 32:1-2; Psalms 32:1-2 . It is a kind of happiness to have fair hearing before men; but the true happiness is to find favour with God.
Romans 1:4 … — Gr. ορισθεντος , defined; for definitions explain obscurities.
With power — For, Superas evadere ad auras, Hic labor, hoc opus est -a work befitting a God. See Ephesians 1:20 . See Trapp on " Ephesians 1:20 "
The Spirit of holiness — The divine essence of Christ, 2 Corinthians 13:4 , which sanctifieth the human nature assumed by him.
1 Corinthians 12:9
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another faith — The faith of miracles, which a man may have, and yet miscarry, 1 Corinthians 13:2 . So doth not any one that hath the faith of God’s elect; that fails not, Luke 22:32 . Some say the apostle here meaneth historical faith; and this seems the more probable, because he speaketh of the working of miracles, 1 Corinthians 12:10 .
Ephesians 2:11
Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Who are called uncircumcision — In great scorn and reproach, as1 Samuel 17:26; 1 Samuel 17:26 . Howbeit unregenerate Israel was to God as Ethiopia, Amos 9:7 . And Jether, by nature an Ishmaelite, 1 Chronicles 7:17 , was for his faith and religion called an Israelite, 2 Samuel 17:25 .
2 Peter 2:11
Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
Which are greater in power — viz. Than the mightiest monarch, Daniel 10:20 , and are therefore called principalities and powers, 1 Peter 3:22 . Mighty ones, Isaiah 10:34 . See 2 Thessalonians 1:7 ; Exodus 12:23-27 2 Samuel 24:15 ; 2 Kings 19:35 . This is all for our comfort, they being our guardians. See my Common Place of Angels.
1 John 5:1 believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
Whosoever believeth — viz. Firmly and fiducially, with assent of mind and consent of will. See Trapp on " 1 Corinthians 12:3 " See Trapp on " John 1:12 "
Loveth him also that is begotten — His love, as Aaron’s ointment, floweth down from the head to the meanest member. God’s image, wheresoever it appeareth, is very lovely.
