Numbers 12

Everett's Study Notes on the Holy ScripturesEverett's Study Notes

Verses 1-16

Numbers 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

Numbers 12:3 Comments - Moses' meekness was a great virtue that allowed God to use him mightily. However, Moses did have several occasions of not controlling his temper. It was this temper problem that caused him to not enter the Promised Land. Moses is an example of a man who can be used by God, but still have a weakness that caused him to miss God's perfect plan for his life. God will use us also in the areas of our life that we yield to Him. Those areas of our life that we walk in the flesh will cause us to miss God's perfect plan for our lives.

Examples of humble men in Bible:

Moses:

Numbers 12:3, “(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)”

David:

1 Samuel 18:23, “And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?”

Jesus:

Matthew 11:29-30, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Paul:

Acts 20:19, “Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:”

Numbers 12:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.

Numbers 12:14 Comments - Earthly parents chasten their children; how much more our heavenly Father! Note: God always has and still today chastens His children with sickness.

Hebrews 12:9, “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?”
