1. 223 in Ezra, 328 in Nehemiah, came back with Zerubbabel (Nehemiah 7:22; Ezra 2:19). Many causes which we can only conjecture may have produced the variation; some gave in their names to go who did not go; others joined the caravan subsequently (Nehemiah 10:18; Ezra 10:33).
