A time when God acts decisively in judgment and salvation. The term new age does not occur in Scripture. Parallel expressions, such as the age to come, the close of the age, are common. Many biblical writers conceived of history in two periods, the present and a future time when God's salvation and judgment would be manifest. The age to come is associated with the experience of eternal life ( Mark 10:30; Luke 18:30 ), the resurrection of the dead (Luke 20:35 ) and the immeasurable riches of God's gracious kindness (Ephesians 2:7 ). The close of the age is associated with final judgment and reward (Matthew 13:39-40 ,Matthew 13:39-40,13:49 ) and with the coming of Christ (Matthew 24:3 ). The preceding references point to a new age in God's future. Another group of New Testament texts focuses on the present reality of God's new age. According to Hebrews 9:26 , Christ brought about the end of the age of sin through His sacrificial death. Paul spoke of his generation of Christians as those on whom the end of the ages has already come (1 Corinthians 10:11 ). A biblical view of the new age must incorporate both strands. See Eschatology .
