Pioneer of Saint Joseph's Society for Foreign Missions. Born Bally-hooly, Ireland, 1861; died London, England, 1929. He was ordained in 1889, and was immediately appointed professor of science and natural philosophy at the Mill Hill College. Named rector, 1904, he filled this post until 1929. A man of profound learning, his humility and distaste for popular acclaim deterred him from any display of his knowledge. He wrote on the Sacred Scriptures for the Catholic Encyclopedia, and contributed to the "Dublin Review" and "Irish Ecclesiastical Record."
