Confessor (died 872), Bishop of Naples; born Naples, Italy; died Veroli, Italy. He restored the sacred edifices, including the church of Saint Januarius, destroyed by the Saracens, founded a hospice, and instituted a service for the ransom of captive Christians. Because he resisted simoniacal practises, he was imprisoned by his nephew Sergius, Duke of Naples. The clergy and people of Naples forced his release. Feast, July 15,.
