Martyrs of this name are mentioned in the old martyrologies on 10,12, and June 28,; the list for 10,June 12, concerning a Basilides martyred at Rome, on the Via Aurelia, is very involved; apparently the same martyr is referred to on both days, although the names of his companions differ on each day. The best-known saint by this name, however, was an officer of the court at Alexandria, who was commissioned to lead Saint Potamiana to her death. Feeling compassion for her, he restrained the heathen rabble, and for this office received the gift of Faith. He professed to be a Christian, was baptized, and decapitated. Feast, June 30,.
