Founded by public subscription in 1914 as a memorial to Cardinal Herbert Vaughan. The aim of the school, which is "recognized" by the Board of Education and the London County Council, is to give Catholic boys a thorough public school education, and to prepare them for the universities, the professions, and commercial life. It is under the control of a governing body of which the Archbishop of Westminster is president; masters, 13; students, 250. The school has attained a high standard in public examinations, has gained several scholarships for its students at the English universities, and now may be said to rank in educational importance with Rome of the famous pre-Reformation schools of England, long since alienated from their original purpose.
