Former Cistercian abbey, department of Aube, France, founded in 1115 by Saint Bernard, as a branch of Citeaux, it sent out many colonies of monks who formed other monasteries. Blessed Bernardo Pignatelli, later Pope Eugene III, was a monk of Clairvaux. In the French Revolution the property was confiscated, and since then the abbey buildings have been used for a penitentiary.
