Reigned c.88to c97 Born in Rome; died probably in exile, c99 The first Apostolic Father, little is known of his life except that his "Epistle to the Corinthians" is authentic. The work remains today one of the valuable monuments of the sub-Apostolic age, and a strong proof for the primacy of the Catholic Church. His name occurs in the Canon of the Mass, and Origen and Jerome identify him with Paul's fellow worker (Philippians 4). Patron of marble workers, stone-cutters, and mariners. Feast, November 23,.
