Antipope 767-768; died 769. He was elected, while a layman, by a faction of the Romans led by his brother, Toto, Duke of Nepi. He was given minor orders under compulsion by the Bishop of Prreneste, and he was consecrated pope. At once he wrote to Pepin, seeking Frankish protection, but the Lombards advanced on Rome and he was imprisoned, degraded, and tortured. His deposition was followed by the consecration of the lawful pope, Stephen (III) IV.
