After a short time he returned to the Tamaroa, remaining there until 1701, when he again took up residence among the Natchez. While traveling to Mobile to seek relief from a serious illness from which he suffered, he and his party were murdered by savage Sitimaches, about 50 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi.
