Comprises most of Meath, Westmeath and Offaly, and parts of Longford, Louth, Dublin and Cavan. Founded in 520, and erected as a diocese in 552 as a suffragan of Armagh. Anciently it comprised eight sees. Its bishops include Saint Oliver Plunket. Pagan and Christian historic relics abound, including Brugh-na-Boinne, cemetery of the pagan kings, Tara and several royal palaces, and the sculptured crosses and round tower of Kells. See also,
