Liturgical Use of Salt

Resource Toolbox

It is put into ordinary holy water and Gregorian water (water of consecration), and is also used in the ceremonies of Baptism, a small quantity being placed on the tongue of the person to be baptized, with the words: "Receive the salt of wisdom; may it be to thee a propitiation unto eternal life."
