"SIR DOUGLAS STRAIGHT (1844-1914), English lawyer and journalist, was born in London Oct. 22 1844 and was educated at Harrow. Up to 1865 he engaged in journalism, but was then called to the bar and soon worked up an extensive practice, especially at the Central Criminal Court, London. He sat in the House of Commons as Conservative member for Shrewsbury from 1870 to 1874, and from 1879 to 1892 he was a judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. He was knighted on retirement, and four years later he returned to journalism as editor of the Pall Mall Gazette. He retired in 1909, and died in London June 4 1914.
