Altar, Jonas (Jonathan ha-Levi)
Resource Toolbox
Bohemian rabbi; born 1755; died March 25, 1855, in Goltsch-Jenikau. He represented the strictest orthodoxy as evidenced by his polemical pamphlet against Aaron Chorin, published in Prague in 1826, entitled, "Mefiboshet ben Yeonatan," in which he endeavors to prove the religious necessity of keeping the head covered during prayers. He wrote also a number of articles for the weekly "Zionswächter," edited by Enoch.
