Rabbi of Smyrna; lived in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. According to Michael, he was born at Smyrna and was a pupil of Ḥayyim b. Jacob Abulafia, author of "'Eẓ Ḥayyim." He went to Safed, the rabbis of which town sent him on a mission to North Africa, where he stayed for several years: in 1718 he was in Tunis, in 1729 in Algeria. Not long after his return he was sent to Europe, and while in Holland he published: "Ẓeror ha-Ḥayyim," novellæ on the "Yad" of Maimonides (Amsterdam, 1738); "Samma de-Ḥayye," responsa, and notes to the four Ṭurim (ib. 1739).
